As a part of my PR Writing class, I worked with Dr. Greta Oliver to promote her book “College Roadmap: Essential Tips For First-Time College Students and Their Families.” Throughout several months of collaboration, I got to know her as a person and as an author. I was able to delve into the meaning and purpose behind her book. On this page are the public relations pieces I wrote during this time.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – “College Roadmap: Essential Tips For First-Time College Students and Their Families'' was released last fall to help readers navigate through the college process. As it approaches its first full year of publication, “College Roadmap” is still a very prevalent resource.
Let’s go back in time, 1975 to be exact, my first year of college. I already see you doing the math in your head, but I’ll pretend I don’t. So, I sat in my room at Bowling Green State University with my overstuffed bags and boxes, peering through the window as my parents drove away. And just like that, I was alone.
When I first met Dr. Greta Oliver, author of “College Roadmap: Essential Tips For First-Time College Students and Their Families,” I was blown away. It was a simple 30-minute Zoom meeting, nothing fancy. Yet, in that short time, I could feel Dr. Oliver’s energy and passion coming through the screen. She spoke about her book with so much expression and enthusiasm that I couldn’t help but smile. From her first to last word, I listened intently.
Imagine having all the answers to your most pressing questions at your fingertips. Well now you can. “College Roadmap: Essential Tips for First-Time College Students and Their Families” was written to help navigate the extensive college process.

Back in 1975 resources were limited, mentors were few and far between, and the internet didn’t exist. As the first in her family to attend college, Dr. Greta Oliver didn’t have the easiest undergraduate college experience. There was not a specific moment when she decided to attend college. In fact, the driving force was her mother.
University education provides a unique opportunity for high school graduates to develop many real-world skills while concentrating on a study of their choice. The transition from high school to college has proven statistically challenging for many applicants, and many college students have performed poorly their first few semesters or dropped out as a result.
